I've had it with Debt!!!

September 1st, 2009 at 02:57 pm

So, I don't know about you, but I'm fed up with living paycheck to paycheck...hoping that I'll be able to do something meaningful with my life (but, in the back of mind, having this unsettling feeling that I'll be tied to a 9 to 5 for the rest of my working career - just to pay creditors!)

I hit my boiling point a little over a year ago. With a pile of "smart" debt to pay every month and little to actually spend on living & giving, I finally decided that something had to give! I enrolled in Financial Peace University to get my priorities in line and was actually blessed with an intensity to get out of my situation.

Since my epiphany, I have stopped borrowing money and am working towards eliminating all of my debt. I recently married- which means I am now also the proud owner of my husband's debt- but, nevertheless, I still have the same desire to remove this weight from my household.

By creating monthly budgets and sticking to them, my husband and I plan to be debt free in 2 years! Just the thought of not being bound to debt has allowed us to dream again. We, now, actually get excited about our future!

We believe that if we didn't owe on student loans and a car, we would give FREELY - to our church, charities, and random people who we feel need to be blessed!!! I think we'd also be more adventurous with our time...I'll probably take a number of artsy classes that involve upholstering or glass staining. Lol I also think a lot of sight-seeing will be in order!

What about you? What would you do with your free time & extra money?

Welcome! I've blogged here for awhile, but this past summer DH and I attended a "Seven Steps to Finanical Freedom" sponsored by our parish. We are starting our first month's budget with some monetary challenges, and plan on conquering our debt in earnest next month and eradicating it once and for all. Looking forward to following your progress!

    Amen!

Free time extra money? I used it on stock trading myself....

Your efforts will lead to success if you just stick to it! We were in some pretty heavy consumer debt ourselves, and in just over a year we decimated most of it. Good luck! The best part is that you are also able to provide some sense of insurance for people that it is possible. Keep going...
    Jerry
